How exhausting it must be to continuously try to pretend to be someone you’re not in order to please those around you. NO, THANK YOU! It takes a strong minded individual to be comfortable with who they truly are and have no problem living that truth. That sounds pretty straightforward, I’m sure but it takes a great amount of internal work to reach that point in life. By not choosing to be who you really are you are essentially doing yourself a disservice. More importantly, the world needs you to show up and share your unique gifts and talents with those around you. Not being authentic suppress who you are and kills your worthiness and confidence. Make a daily commitment to take the following steps in order to be more authentic:
Forgive and Love Yourself
You have to get to a point where you’re able to forgive yourself for your past mistakes. We have all done things in life in which we aren’t the most proud of but it’s those very things that have taught us some of life’s toughest lessons! I personally don’t view mistakes as something I’ve failed at but rather something that has tough me a valuable lesson that I needed to learn. We can NOT continue to replay bad choices in life that we’ve made. We have to make peace with those choices, throw them away and move forward. By cultivating kindness towards yourself you start the journey of self-love!
Be Willing to Make a Change
Once you have forgiven yourself for your past mistakes you must be willing to take action in the areas that need work. It’s pointless to forgive yourself without really doing some self assessment and seeing where you could improve on and actually start doing the work. If not, you’re going to make the same mistake yet again. So tell yourself, “Yes I made a poor decision in the past but that decision does not define who I am” and then let it go. Embrace your imperfections!
Own Your Mistakes
This one is a hard one for so many people and is what usually keeps them from moving forward. You have to acknowledge that you are human, you made a mistake and OWN IT. Whatever consequences followed your poor decision is something you must take charge in.
Create a Daily Practice
Creating a daily practice of living authentically is essential to progression. You must nurture your mind, body and spirit in ways that speak your truth on who you really are. Identify which traits you need to cultivate in your life and create a daily intention to master them. A major one is mindfulness. We need to quiet the outside noise and tune into our thoughts, feelings a d emotions. Authentic people accept their life experiences and feel the emotions that arise. They don’t repress their feelings. So commit daily to practicing those things in which will elevate you to the next level of true authenticity.
Master Self Respect
Did you know that people respect you on the same level in which you respect yourself? Yes, it’s true. If you allow other people to run over you and talk to you in ways that are less than respectful then you not only lack self confidence but you’re lacking in the self respect department as well. Authentic people are impeccable when they speak to themselves, about themselves and to others. They are mindful of the energy behind words and know they are worthy of love and peace of mind. Not only that but they also create their own rules based on the standards that resonate with them. This type of empowerment gives them the inner strength to withstand temptation and build self confidence! Always respect yourself and in turn (most of the time) others will respect you as well.
